Location: First Church, Boston
Music by Debussy, Faure and Poulenc, with baritone Paul Soper.
Enjoy this sumptuous feast of music by French composers, including Debussy’s immortal Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, Honegger’s evocative Pastoral d’été and Faure’s hauntingly beautiful Pavane, all in intimate arrangements for chamber orchestra.
Baritone Paul Soper is back on stage with the COB with songs by Poulenc and a few from the days of the Moulin Rouge. Le Bestiaire is set to Apollinaire’s witty description of select members of the animal kingdom: Camels, goats, grasshoppers, dolphins, shrimp and carp (!). And after listening to Rapsodie negre you will never hear the word “Honolulu” again in quite the same way.
A free reception with the opportunity to meet the artists and enjoy wine and hors d’oeuvres follows the concert.
Honegger: Pastoral d’été
Poulenc: Le Bestiaire (ou Cortege d’ Orphee)
Robert Edward Smith: Barcarolle from A Place of Beauty
Poulenc: Rapsodie negre
Debussy: Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun
Poulenc: Voyage a Paris and Hotel
Giraud: Sous le ciel de Paris
Louiguy: La Vie en Rose
